About

Welcome.

Spyke Space is a place for paying attention.

The notes you’ll find here begin with ordinary things: a library project, a conversation, a walk, a photograph, a bubble drifting across a bath, a question that refused to leave me alone. Given enough time, they often reveal themselves to be about something else entirely.

I don’t write to document my life.

I write to understand it.

Over the years I’ve learned that understanding can’t be rushed. Some questions unfold over an afternoon. Others take months, or quietly wait for decades before they make sense. I’ve stopped trying to force those moments. Instead, I’ve tried to become more available to them.

Field Notes are the result.

This site is less a blog than a field station—a place where observations, experiments, and stories are collected, tended, and occasionally connected to one another. Nothing here is finished. Many ideas return years later wearing different clothes.

You’ll notice recurring themes: libraries, stewardship, photography, gardens, clothing, technology, fragrance, and the natural world. Those are simply the landscapes where I happen to wander. The real subjects are usually attention, curiosity, and the quiet practice of learning how to see.

Many of these essays are developed through extended conversations with ChatGPT. I use it as a thinking partner, much as I might use a notebook, a trusted colleague, or a long walk. The experiences are mine. The understanding emerges through dialogue. I mention this not as a disclaimer, but because honesty about the process matters to me.

If you’ve found your way here, you’re welcome to wander.

Take your time.

Nothing is what it seems.
